Frequently Asked Questions

.Q.

Do I need to rekey the locks on the property I just moved into?

.A.

Yes! Builders usually provide keys to various subcontractors to access homes under construction. These keys get passed to workers, so there is no telling how many people may have a key to your house. Smart people rekey locks after closing on their new home.

.Q.

Can SoCal Locks And Key rekey the locks on my apartment?

.A.

Technically, yes. Our professional locksmiths can rekey the locks on your apartment, whether you just moved in or just want to change things up after a while. But before you call someone to rekey your apartment lock, you should get approval from your complex manager. Rekeying your locks is a smart move but your lease agreement may have restrictions.

Will it be possible to install a deadbolt if there's no hole to put it in?

.A.

Yes. Our expert locksmiths can help you find a quality deadbolt, cut the required holes in your door, install the lock and key it to match your existing house keys. It is an easy process for them, because pulling off sprints likes this is a demand that comes with the job.

SoCal Locks And Key is a reputable company that can almost always rekey existing locks to have the same key. Sometimes, one might be able to notice some key differences in brands that make this impossible. If so, we can install new locks that allow us to totally match your set of keys. We just have a thing for making things match!

You may be able to buy and replace locks yourself, depending on the model involved. Nevertheless, because the lock types can make an endless list, there is an even longer list of different setbacks, offsets and other pertinent dimensions to consider. Obviously, getting it right isn’t exactly a cakewalk. If it is not set exactly right, locks become loose and criminals can easily breach the premises.

Well, yes. At times, the team gets requests to replace the locks in old garages and retro cottages. Even for older houses, changing locks is a thing. For most of these, changing locks is often a result of the owner having no keys left. If you don’t have a key for the lock we are supposed to replace for you, we can still get the job done without damaging anything.

That’s an easy one! It is necessary to get this kind of problem sorted quickly to minimize the likelihood of unauthorized entry. In most cases, our professional locksmiths can rekey your locks—which can be quicker and cheaper than replacing the locks. You will be supplied with a new set of keys. It could prove more cost effective to replace some or all of the locks affected. Again, your locksmith will advise on site.

When it comes to this topic, nearly all law enforcement and locksmiths agree on for the sake of safety. Should you need to get into your house or business quickly, it will be much easier to have one single key. Fumbling through countless keys is a melodrama at best. A one-key system is often profitable when you need to get into your house fast enough to escape bad weather or avoid impending danger.

We wouldn’t recommend a company that does not perform background checks on their employees. Most times, not doing so could almost mean you are working on ghosts. These locksmiths are coming in to work on your business or home. As such, you need to protect yourself as much as you can. Background checks might be the difference between having a burglary or not. Nevertheless, all our technicians are background-checked and verified.

Yes, they can, in the vast majority of situations. SoCal Lock And Key may need some additional information for the key, depending on its type. Here are what we consider: make and model and year if it’s a car key or type of cabinet, photo or brand if it’s for a filing cabinet. Do not hesitate to give us a call so we can discuss more.

.Q.

Is it possible to include a “Do not duplicate” caveat on my key?

.A.

if that’s what you want, then we will make it so. Keys with special markings that instruct against duplication are a way to assert that the consent of the owner is needed before anything can be done to the key. There has to be a letter of authorization from the owner and some paperwork from the manufacturer. However, SoCal Lock And Key reserves the right to refuse duplication requests for keys that are marked to restrict duplication.

.Q.

What if I need service, but the person who is paying isn’t on-site?

.A.

We make sure that paying us is one of the easiest processes when doing business with us. If the person that will be paid for the job isn’t around, no problem. We have a secure credit card system that enables us to send whoever is paying the services an authorization form via email. When they fill out the firm, they can send it back to us. It can also be done using a smartphone.
